The alphabetic writing of the Akha language is based on a system developed and agreed upon by the Khanq Haqniq Aqkaq Sanqbovq (KHAS), a committee formed by representatives of the Akha peoples of China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand, held in Jinghong, Yunnan Province, China on 1 January 2009.
